Micro Aviation NZ
The original B10 Bantam was designed by Max Clear and first
flew in 1983. He had previously built D31 Turbulent ZK-CWI and
Pitts Special ZK-EES.
He set up a company to manufacture them called Micro Aviation, based at Te Kowhai Airfield, Limmer Road, RD8, Hamilton, New Zealand. The design evolved into a very successful two-seater and many were built.
Following the death of Max Clear in 2011, Micro was taken over by Colin Smith's Croydon Aircraft Company and moved to Mandeville in late 2012. The Micro Aviation Bantam spares and support work has been set up as separate subsidiary company called Micro Aviation NZ 2012 Ltd, though no further complete aircraft have been built.

There were agencies with Micro Aviation UK and Micro Aviation Europe based in Netherlands, but these no longer operate.
Micro Aviation South Africa
Initially this was a successful major dealership based at
Nelspruit, which took the majority of the NZ production of
Bantams from about 2003.
These were shipped as kits without being flown in NZ, and were
assembled at Nelspruit.
Following cessation of the Bantam production in NZ in 2012, and
an increase in the legal weight limit of the
ultralight/microlight category in several countries, the design
was re-worked and strengthened by Micro SA as the B22 Bat Hawk
with gross weight increased to 540 kg. They are built entirely at
Nelspruit.
Micro SA also took on an agency for CAMit engines (which had
split off from Jabiru), but following CAMit's bankruptcy in 2016
they now install 100 hp Rotax.

Bat Hawk China
This is the trading name of the Panjin Company at Liaoning which
became Micro SA's agency in China,
It started in 2016 and purchased four Bat Hawks.

Max Adventure Sports, India
An order for 200 Bat Hawk aircraft was announced in August 2019
for Max Adventure Sports in India. These were to have been
shipped as kits for local assembly in India. Following Covid
problems, this order has been shelved.

B20 = improved single-seat design. Rotax 447 engine 40hp 249kg MAUW
B22 = two-seat design. First six with Rotax 503 50hp engine, then production with Rotax 582 65hp engine. 374kg MAUW
B22AG = B22 with prototype agricultural mods (c/n 0043 only) 374kg MAUW
B22S = B22 with new Clark-Y wing. Certification in Australia and to UK Section-S . Rotax 582 65 hp engine. 377kg. MAUW

B22S with Jabiru engine. Initially 4-cyl 2200cc 85hp then 6-cyl
3300cc 120hp. Mostly 430kg MAUW (a few 377 kg)
(some exceptions but most production changed from 2200 to 3300
in early 2006, also some were retrospectively re-engined)
B22UL = B22S with UL Power UL260i 95hp engine. 377kg MAUW (c/n 10-0340 has 429kg)

B22 design reworked &
strengthened by Micro Aviation, South Africa; to LSA standards
with 540 kg MAUW. Produced by Micro Aviation at Nelspruit, South

Initially a few sub-assemblies were supplied from NZ, but most
were built entirely in South Africa.
Initially with Jabiru 3300 120 hp engines, then CAMit CAE3300 125 hp engines for which Micro SA had agency. After bankruptcy of CAMit in Oct 2016, they changed to the Bat Hawk R model using Rotax 100 hp from c/n 0046.
There have been two c/n sequences. The first was started in late 2012. The second series from late 2014 was introduced following detail modifications for grant of full type approval.
The six aircraft (0029 to 0034)
supplied to the Botswana Defence Force were modified by Micro SA
with pairs of strut-mounted 5.6 mm (0.22 in) machine guns. See

Note that the name Bathawk has also been used for a family of drones made by UDS in South Africa, with ZT-Txx registrations. These have nothing to do with Micro Aviation Bat Hawk aircraft
